John Sory

Chief Executive

UHealth Regional Alliance, University of Miami

John Sory joined the University of Miami in September 2012 as its Chief Executive, UHealth Regional Alliance with responsibility for affiliations and expansion, health plan relationships, new reimbursement models and population health operations. In his time with UHealth he has rebuilt the organization’s contracting and business development efforts and renegotiated over $1B of payer agreements to leverage the organization’s scale, breadth and outcomes in all markets, most notably in Medicare Advantage and Managed Medicaid.

In 2015 the organization entered its first population health agreements and is on the “path to risk” with four leading health plans.  The agreements are a critical part of an overall transformation in clinical care delivery and reimbursement from fee for service to value based health outcomes. Additionally, he has developed novel affiliations with leading physician groups, ACOs, employers, and foreign entities.  In December 2016, he executed an enterprise agreement with Walgreens significantly increasing UHealth’s points of primary care access by assuming operating responsibility for the 17 Walgreens Take Clinics in the south Florida region.

Prior to joining the University, Mr Sory was the Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer for eResearch Technology, Inc, a global leader in clinical research services and an emerging leader in electronic patient reported outcomes.  He was responsible for leading the company’s efforts to diversify within clinical research and into new healthcare services.  He established the healthcare strategy and expanded the organization into remote monitoring.  Mr Sory led the acquisition of Care Fusion Research Services which essentially doubled the size of the company prior to its acquisition by private equity firm, Genstar.

From 1993 to 2009 Mr Sory was employed by Pfizer Inc in New York City.  From 2002 until 2009, he led Pfizer Health Solutions (PHS), a wholly owned subsidiary, which Mr Sory helped to start in 1996.  PHS designed and operated health improvement programs, health information technologies, and chronic disease management services in the US and Europe.

Clients included the State of Florida which awarded PHS a multi year chronic care management contract to improve the health and lower the healthcare costs of low income Floridians. Mr Sory led PHS’ Medicare Health Support pilot awarded by CMS and managed through a joint venture with the health plan, Humana. PHS also marketed electronic medical record systems to physician practices and designed and led Pfizer’s employee health initiative to improve the health of over 75,000 Pfizer employees and families.

He received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and his BA cum laude from Vanderbilt University.  He also completed an executive management program at the Harvard Business School.
